There is nothing more American than risking one's life during a pandemic to keep America running. That’s what essential workers do every day. Many of whom are Black, Brown and Asian immigrants are nursing patients back to health, growing and preparing our food, keeping public areas sanitized and doing so much other crucial work to keep us safe.
Many have lived here for years raising families, opening businesses and contributing to the U.S. economy. They are crucial to America’s recovery and are American in every way except on paper. They should not have to worry about being separated from their families and losing everything they’ve built.
Immigrant essential workers protect us and they deserve respect and protection too. It’s past time America provides a pathway to citizenship to the millions of essential workers who call this country home.
